Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE), Board of Directors Member
TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOB.
I've been on the SASE Board of Directors for the past 4 years. As a member of the Board of Directors, I help shape the overall vision and strategy for the organization.
Outside of SASE, I'm also a member of the Board of Directors for the Asia Society Texas Center. Asia Society is the leading educational organization that promotes mutual understanding and partnership strengthening between Asian and Western individuals and institutions. The Texas Center aims to achieve the same goals at a more local level.
Earlier this year, I retired from BHGE. Going forward, I'm interested in leading a small to medium-sized business. I also want to help entrepreneurs break barriers, scale up a startup, and help other organizations overcome their challenges.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOUR CURRENT JOB?
I worked at GE Oil & Gas (now Baker Hughes, a GE Company) for the past 5 years. Beginning as the CTO of Measurement & Control, I later became the Vice President of Engineering & Technology. More recently in the last 2 years, I was the President of Engineering & Product Management for Oil Field Services.
Prior to GE, I worked at ABB Group for 19 years. Beginning as a Senior Systems Engineer, I worked in several senior roles including Vice President and Senior Vice President of various business units.
Prior to my career, I received a Bachelor of Engineer (BE) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE)
WHY IS MENTORSHIP IMPORTANT?
Throughout my career in the Industrial Automation space, I've worked in various global industry segments. My proudest moments in those 30+ years were when my teams went the extra mile to accomplish something, and when I was able to help organizations win through tough times.
I invest my time in recruiting, mentoring, and developing individuals in order to support the development of leadership in Asians. By guiding the younger generation with the knowledge I've accumulated through personal experience, an increasing number of Asians can create similar or even greater impact.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family (especially my grandson), vacationing on the beach while eating vanilla ice cream. I also enjoy reading and constantly learning new things.
