TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROJECT.
Cloud Patrol promotes the safe use of unmanned drones. We provide a portable radar-based system that detects manned aircraft over a 9-mile radius. Drones are forced into an avoidance protocol so that they will steer clear of detected aircraft.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SOLVE THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM?
We're both engineers with a passion for emerging technology. We wanted to work in a new tech industry (drones in our case), solving problems to overcome barriers that may slow down the technology's growth or suppress its availability.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT THE FINAL ROUND?
We're most excited about pitching in front of a live judge panel and audience. Alex has actually attended both of the previous SASEtank Final Rounds. Knowing that we're going to be on the stage this year as a competitor, instead of being in the audience, is exciting but also a bit daunting.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST NERVOUS ABOUT FOR THE FINAL ROUND?
Our current radar is too expensive to transport from Oklahoma to Pittsburgh. We're trying to figure out a substitute in order to have a working demo for the Prototype Showcase.
DID YOU THINK YOU WOULD MAKE IT THIS FAR IN THE COMPETITION?
Because of all the time and work we've put into this project, we honestly aren't surprised. However, this doesn't mean we haven't had any doubts. We weren't sure if the SASEtank judges would prefer a B2B consumer model, or a B2C. Also, the problem we're tackling and the solution we're providing are relatively niche. In its current iteration, the product is not meant to be widely used by the general consumer.
